WELDALAM project

2/17/2025

The WELDALAM project is a CORNET initiative focusing on evaluating the weldability of high-strength aluminum AM parts and validating different welding technologies. The project aimed to develop joining concepts for connecting metal-printed parts to each other and to conventionally manufactured components. It involved various welding techniques, including GTAW, FSW, LBW, and EBW. The project was developing design, material, and process guidelines for industrial users to enable the future use of welded AM components. Two demonstrators defined by the user committee were welded. The project ended in December 2024 with a conference in Dresden with Walloon and German industrial partners.

The results obtained were very encouraging, even if many aspects such as fatigue resistance could not be addressed. A new project capitalizing on these results will therefore be introduced in 2025 focusing on laser welding technologies.

If you are interested in welding additive manufactured parts, do not hesitate to contact us, you can still join the new industrial committee of the project.
